Art Club has been redeveloped and redesigned to make way for the inaugural graduating class of the WHEAT RIDGE ARTS HONOUR SOCIETY. Presenting a brand new opportunity for art students at Wheat Ridge... For the first time in school history, we will be offering varsity letters to qualifying students for their commitment to the fine arts! I am excited to invite the seniors from the class of 2010 to be the innagural class to participate... Guidelines for earning a varsity letter require evidence of commitment to the fine arts, both individually and as a team of artists within Studio 23. In order to be considered for a letter in art, the students must meet all of the following criteria:
* Student must successfully complete and pass a full-year of AP Studio Art (or) take three semester-long advanced-level art classes in one schoolyear.
* Student must have 20 hours of community service in the arts, above and beyond general expectations of class expectations.
* Student must visit three professional galleries and compile written reports on each, providing reactions and insight to how the visits were beneficial to being a working artist. (AP Studio Art students do not need to complete this, as they will meet this requirement in class)
* Student must develop presentation of their complete portfolio for review by peers and art department for approval.
While the expectations and criteria are high, they certainly are attainable; this provides a realistic goal for anyone who is truly passionate about the arts and would like the honour of receiving a varsity letter in Fine Arts. Please see Mr. Scaglione if you are interested in completing this program.
