The Artists :: Student Gallery :: Photo Gallery :: AP23 Field Trips

This course covers the most advanced art curriculum offered at Wheat Ridge, an intense investigation of technique and practice in one of three areas (drawing, 2D design, or 3D design). It is designed for self-motivated students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art and wish to develop mastery in the concept, composition, and execution of their ideas.

The class is mixed of the three portfolio disciplines and offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with artists from all medias and mindsets. Students are immersed in a comprehensive program to obtain a better understanding of life as an artist after high school. The curriculum includes far more than simply creating art. From professional artist lectures and presentations to museum and gallery field trips to portfolio review days, these student artists gain preparation for the next phase. Whether they are art school-bound, university-bound, or heading straight into the field, the AP® students gain a well-rounded comprehension of professional arts.

AP® Studio Art will be evaluated, not by written exam, but by portfolio submission to the College Board at the end of the year. Students may be eligible for college credit by demonstrating excellence in all areas of the portfolio. Throughout the year, students will address all three sections of this AP® Portfolio Exam: Breadth, Concentration and Quality. Portfolio development is an ongoing process in which students are expected to use informed and critical decision making to develop their work.
